Questions
- Why 16 MB?
- WhatsApp caps media messages around 16 MB on most platforms; documents can be far larger but play less conveniently. The target here is an editable field if your version behaves differently.
- Does my file get uploaded?
- No. The models and all processing run inside your browser on your own device. You can verify this yourself: open your browser’s DevTools, watch the Network tab, and process a file: there are no uploads. After the first visit most tools also work fully offline.
- Which formats are supported?
- MP4 and WebM out, with H.264, VP9 or VP8 video depending on what your browser can encode. The tool only offers what it has verified will work on your machine: HEVC and AV1 encoding are not available in browsers today, so they are not offered.
- Why is compressing sometimes instant and sometimes slow?
- Trimming, muting and container changes copy the existing video stream without re-encoding, so the result is near-instant. Changing quality or resolution requires a real re-encode at roughly playback speed on typical hardware.
- How big will my GIF be?
- The panel estimates the size before you export. GIFs are an old format and get large fast, so trimming the clip and lowering the width are the two controls that matter.
