Privacy policy

The Tools Whale is built so that we cannot see your files. Every tool on this site runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. This page explains exactly what that means, what little data exists at all, and what happens to it.

Your files never leave your device

When you process an image, video, PDF or audio file here, the file is opened and processed locally by your browser. The AI models are downloaded to your browser and run on your hardware. There is no upload step and no server of ours that could receive your files.

You do not have to take our word for it: open your browser’s DevTools, watch the Network tab, and process a file: there are no uploads. After the first visit, most tools also work fully offline.

What is stored on your device

The site stores a few things in your own browser, purely to make the tools work well. None of it identifies you, and none of it is transmitted to us:

You can remove all of it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

Analytics and tracking

This site uses two tools to count page views. They differ in a way worth spelling out, because one of them sets cookies and the other does not.

Vercel Web Analytics is cookieless. It sets no cookies, builds no profile of you and does not follow you to other sites. Visitors are counted using a hash derived from the incoming request, and that hash is discarded after 24 hours — so it cannot recognise someone who visits tomorrow as someone who visited today.

Google Analytics does set cookies: first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<id>, which persist for up to two years and let Google recognise a returning browser. This is real tracking in a way the tool above is not, which is why it is named here rather than folded into a general sentence about analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics on every site you visit with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

Between them, a page view records the page address and the referring link, an approximate location worked out from your IP address (country, region and city), and your device type, operating system and browser. That is the entire list.

Both measure pages, never files. What you open in a tool is not tracked, and could not be even if we wanted it to be, because it never reaches us.

The contact form

The one place we collect personal data is the contact form, and only when you choose to use it. If you send us a message we receive the email address you enter and the text of your message, and we store them in a private message log so we can read and respond.

Hosting and server logs

The site’s pages and model files are served by a hosting provider. Like almost all web hosting, the provider may keep standard, short-lived access logs (such as IP address and requested page) for security and reliability. These logs relate to page requests only. Your files are never part of any request.

Advertising

To keep the tools free, this site may show ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown, the following applies:

Ads never affect how the tools work: your files are processed on your device regardless, and are never shared with any advertising partner.

Your choices

Children

This site is a general-audience tool site. It does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. The contact form is the only collection point, and it is optional.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and its “last updated” date. Because the architecture is local-first, the core promise (your files never leave your device) is not something we plan to change.
